Leadership and Visions

A True Leader is The One Who Has Visions Larger Than Himself

- 'leader' defined by me!

A leader is the one who is responsible for the team's productivity and efficiency. A good leader paves way for his team towards success. Apart from the target being completed, he also influences his team in many good and brave ways based on his capability. A leader must be responsible enough to understand the predicaments of his team-members so he refrains from micromanaging them.

A leader should not only be a delegate but also think of himself as someone who is there to serve the purpose through his visions. A target for any team might be set, but a leader's vision alters many things within a team. Bad leaders lead to bad results for the same set target. Thus a target is something which is the same for everybody but vision isn't.

A leader's vision makes his team better than what they collectively are on an average, but a leader must look into that, as a team, they should achieve more than what made him stand out. It's the leader's inherent duty to have his team emotionally on track while developing towards the goal. The basic characteristic that defines a person as a leader is for him to be supportive and encourage his team through out the journey.

In order to take his team towards the success road , it is important for a leader to have a vision as mentioned in the previous paragraphs. This, the VISION set by the leader makes him an inspiration for the team. This vision is what compels the team to strive for the target. This is what influences the leader himself to toil and tug his way further.

Thus a vision which the leader thinks is doable isn't possibly capable for him to be extra-ordinary but something which is inspiring for himself makes the team achieve the results illustriously and without being micromanaged or losing morale during the journey.

As Lord Sri Krishna said in the 21st verse of the 3rd chapter of the Bhagawadgeetha

" यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः ।
   स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते ॥ ३-२१॥ "

- Great people are often followed by others. The standards they set becomes the principle for the followers!

Similarly , the vision of the leader becomes the motto of the team, hence the leader abides by his vision to set an example and thus the team is in good hands.

Thus, I conclude that a true leader is not only the one who supports or encourages his team but also has a vision larger than himself which inspires everyone including him to work harder in every stage of toil towards the successful achievement of the goal.
